You survived a vicious hurricane, how was it?

If you were in the middle of a great hurricane but turned out unharmed and want to let a loved one know that you are safe, what would you say?

Follow the example from Diana's mail to Sofia and write about how YOUR experience during the hurricane was

  1. Hi Melany,
I’m writing to let you know that I’m okay. I’ve never experienced such a strong hurricane before. The wind and rain were extremely powerful and knocked down many trees. You couldn’t be outside at all. The temperature was probably around 7°C the whole time — it was pretty serious.
The hurricane caused a lot of problems with my plans. I couldn’t go play the match, and I wasn’t able to get a flight for my business meetings either.
I’ll tell you more when things calm down. I hope everything is okay with you!

    1. Hello Ivan, how are you? I hope you are well. I am writing to tell you that I am concerned about the heavy rains that have been occurring in Sincelejo. It has been raining and thundering for 3 days now and this makes it difficult for me to go out. You know that tomorrow is my graduation from college so I have been quite worried. The cabs and motorcycles have not been able to leave so there is no transportation, I think they will cancel the ceremony. When I go to the city I will tell you better everything that happened during these days, I hope you are doing well at the university. Goodbye, I love you very much

  2. Hello Christina.

I am writing to tell you that we are very well.
I had experienced other storms in the town, but none compared to the hurricane we experienced a few days ago. Everything was moving and it seemed like the sky would fall. It didn't stop raining at any time and that affected us being able to travel to meet up the next day. fortunately everything is over
We must reschedule our meeting, Salomon and I really want to see you. It could be for next month when we have a break.
How are you and that beautiful belly? Is it moving yet? We love you very much and we will see you soon

  3. Hi Mom,
I’m writing to let you know that I won’t be able to get home at the usual time.

It has been raining heavily at the university for the past two hours. The streets are flooded and the wind is very strong, making it hard to walk or find shelter. Even though my class already ended, I haven’t been able to reach the bus stop.

Some buses have stopped running and I heard that a few roads nearby are closed due to the water.

How are you? I hope everything is okay at home.
Take care. Love, Héctor Salgado Alvis

  4. ¡Hi, Ana!

I just wanted to tell you that I'm fine. It was crazy, I've never experienced a hurricane like that!

The wind was so strong that the house was shaking. It was raining so hard that the yard was flooded. The worst thing was that we were without electricity; we were without power for so long that the batteries ran out.

Now there are fallen trees and flooded streets, it's chaos. I was so worried that I didn't sleep well. But the important thing is that we are fine and the house has not been damaged.

How are you? Tell me about it!

In my town, heavy rains are normal and common, but here it’s different and dangerous.
The rain and strong winds lasted a whole day, the streets were flooded and we couldn’t get out of the houses.
    It was pretty serious!

I wanted to go home, I was so scared, but I’m fine, I’m sure, I’ll be visiting you and I’ll tell you everything.

  7. Hi Mariangel

Just letting you know that I’m okay after the earthquake. It happened early in the morning and lasted around 40 seconds. The ground shook really hard, and many buildings were damaged. People had to leave their homes quickly, and it was a bit scary.

Because of the earthquake, school was cancelled for the whole week, and we didn’t have electricity or internet for two days. Also, our trip to the mountains was postponed until everything gets back to normal.

How are things over there? I hope you're safe too.

    Take care,
    Mariave 🤍

  8. Hi stiven

Cancellation of an invitation your mother made me to a family dinner

Steven, right now, a strong hurricane has been hitting my city these past two days. Your mother invited me, which I didn't want to miss, but due to what happened last night when a hurricane blew off part of the roof of my house, I couldn't attend. I'm writing this letter to let you know as your family's representative. Please contact me when you've read this letter. I wish you the best for your meeting

  10. Tamara, i just wanted to let you know I’m okay after the hurricane, it rained for two days, the wind was really strong over 150 km/h and many streets were blocked by fallen trees. We lost power the first night and didn’t get it back until the next day. My family and I had to evacuate and stay in a shelter for two nights, the casses were canceled, and my job interview was rescheduled.

  11. Hi María
Just letrina you know that i am okay.
The temperature has never been so hot here. We have even had some forest fires. It's impossible to go outside in the middle of the day and do normal things without feeling really warm. How is everything where you are? Is your family doing well?
Lots of love and take care.

  12. Hi Luz,

I wrote to let you know that I was fine after the hurricane.

The hurricane was quite stormy—it lasted all night, around six hours actually. It brought strong winds, thunder, and a lot of rain. But what really affected my plans was the power outage it caused, because I couldn’t attend the meeting over the weekend. For that reason, I had to postpone my trip to Cartagena.

But everything was fine afterward. So, how was your weekend, and how was your family?

    Thank you for your concern.

  13. Hi Rafael,

Just letting you know that I’m okay.

It has been raining heavily here for three days without stopping.
The strong winds have knocked down many trees, and it’s been hard to go outside.

Because of the bad weather, they closed the schools, and the soccer game I had was canceled last weekend.

How are you doing? I hope you and your family are well.

    Take care,
    James

    Hi Mom,

I just wanted to let you know that I’m okay.
A strong hurricane passed through our town yesterday. The wind was really loud, and it rained a lot. The sky went dark very fast.

Some houses were damaged, and 30 people have disappeared in the strong hurricane. It's very sad, but the rescue teams are working hard.
We had no power for many hours, and there was a lot of water in the streets.

Luckily, I’m safe, and our house didn’t have much damage.
Please don’t worry. I’ll call you as soon as I can.

    I love you so much.
    Your daughter, YINA SALGADO

  17. Hi Mateo,

I’m writing to apologize for not being able to meet up as we had planned.

There has been heavy rain for the past week. Strong winds knocked down several trees in the neighborhood, and the streets are completely flooded. It’s been really hard to get around.

Because of the weather, all local buses and trains were suspended. The concert we were going to attend got postponed, and I couldn’t even leave the house due to the dangerous conditions.

How have you been? I hope the weather hasn’t affected you as much.

Take care and hope to see you soon,
    Carlos

  18. Hello Mom.
I hope you're doing very well today. I'm writing to let you know that I'm feeling fine after a storm that hit last night where I'm staying. There was a strong breeze and landslides in various parts of town.
I was looking forward to visiting you this weekend, but the authorities suggest we stay home because the streets are deteriorating and there may be rain in the last few hours.
How are you all feeling? And what have you heard from my friend Mariana?
    Greetings, Mom, I love you.
